Payment Authorisation

Draft notice: this page explains the intended Payoff payment model. It must match the exact Stripe checkout flow before real payments are accepted.

What you pay now

At checkout, Payoff charges the platform fee for the selected cycle. The platform fee is shown before checkout and is separate from the commitment amount.

Saved payment method

By completing checkout, you authorise Payoff to save your payment method with Stripe and use it for the possible deadline charge described below. Payoff does not store your raw card details.

What may be charged later

At the cycle deadline, Payoff may charge your saved Stripe payment method for unfinished commitment only. The maximum possible deadline charge is shown before checkout and should not be exceeded for that cycle.

How focus reduces the charge

Every focused second counts. Payoff calculates completed focus time second by second and reduces the possible deadline charge from the commitment amount. Partial progress still reduces the possible charge.

Examples

If your commitment at risk is $16 and you complete 50% of your required focus seconds before the deadline, the possible deadline charge becomes $8. If you complete 100%, the possible deadline charge becomes $0.

No refund delay model

Payoff is designed so the commitment amount is not charged upfront and refunded later. Instead, only the platform fee is paid upfront, and any unfinished commitment is charged only at the deadline.

No silent repeat

When a cycle ends, Payoff pauses until you choose the next target, commitment level, and cycle. A new commitment cycle should not silently repeat without your choice.

Failed payment

If a deadline charge fails, Payoff may pause access until the outstanding amount is resolved. Payoff may retry a failed charge or ask you to update your payment method, subject to applicable law and Stripe rules.

Disputes and mistakes

If you believe a charge was incorrect, contact Payoff support promptly. Before launch, replace this with your real support email and dispute process.
